Letter to my 16 Year-Old Self

Dear Caroline,

At age 40, you will have accomplished a lot of the goals you wanted in life. But, there are some things you need to know:

You will make major life decisions based on your current boyfriend. You will not regret the results of those decisions, but that relationship is not healthy for you. Your soulmate is elsewhere at the moment.

Your mind is strong but delicate at the same time. I don’t know how to prepare you for the experiences you will live through. Just know that you are stronger and braver than you will ever give yourself credit for, even at 40 years old.

You already journal. That will be a lifelong habit. Lean into your writing in the hard times. It is your greatest coping mechanism.

Your mind will lie to you. It will frequently tell you that you aren’t good enough or that you aren’t worth it. It is all lies.

You are good enough.
You are worth it.
You are brave.
You are strong.

And, you will have a life worth writing a book about.
